Italian defender Alessandro Nesta has confirmed that he plans to leave Milan at the end of the season.
The 36-year-old has just a couple of months left on his deal with the San Siro outfit and it is now clear that he won’t be signing a new contract with the Rossoneri.
Over the last few months the experienced defender has been heavily linked with a summer exit from Milan and he has now moved to confirm the speculations.
“This has been my last season with Milan,” Nesta said at a press conference. “I’m leaving. We’re playing at high levels and if I no longer feel important then I’d prefer to stay at home.”
The highly rated defender reveals that he rejected a new contract offer from Milan back in February.
“I made my choice in February. The club offered me a new one-year deal, but I decided that I didn’t want it.”
He then added fuel to speculations linking him with a move to Major League Soccer.
“I don’t know where I will be playing next season because I haven’t signed anything.
“I’ll go and play where the tempo is lower. An experience in America wouldn’t be bad, it’ll be a great adventure.”
Nesta joined Milan in a big money move from Lazio in 2002 and has since enjoyed a lot of success at San Siro.
While winning numerous honours with the Rossoneri, Nesta was also part of Italy side that won the 2006 World Cup.
