(GSM) – After scoring no goals in the first half against First Division side Veendam, Ajax did much better in the second to defeat their opponents 3-0 and advance to the next round in the Dutch Cup.
Ajax were the last of the bigger teams to feature in the fourth round of the KNVB Beker, and expected an easy task against Veendam at the Amsterdam ArenA.
But it took Martin Jol’s men until the 60th minute for Egyptian striker Mido to finally break the deadlock. Uruguayan Luis Suarez added another in the 75th minute and Christian Eriksen made it 3-0 near the full time whistle.
A bigger surprise occured elsewhere however, as amateur side Achilles ’29 stunned Eredivisie outfit Heracles 5-3.
Heracles first gave away a 2-0 lead and then allowed their opponents to come back to 3-3, after which the hosts finished things off through Tim Verhoeven (penalty, 70th) and Frank Hol (87th).
