Ajax suffered a second consecutive defeat in the Dutch Eredivisie, losing 2-0 at AZ on Sunday.

After losing to ADO Den Haag in their previous fixture, Ajax again failed to impress in Alkmaar where AZ could have won by a much larger margin.

After the home side missed several chances, Pontus Wernbloom finally broke the deadlock in the 74th minute. Kolbeinn Sigthorsson added a second goal three minutes later.

Ajax were a man down by the full time whistle as Andre Ooijer received a straight red card for a violent foul.

Ajax remain in third position, but now share that spot with Groningen. Leaders PSV are six points ahead.
