New Baines deal placed on hold

Leighton Baines is to be rewarded for his loyalty towards Everton, but he will have to wait for his pay rise, the Mirror understands.

The Merseyside club are set to offer the England international a 50 per cent pay rise, taking him to £75,000-per-week as a thank you for accepting the clubs decision to not sell him to Premier League champions Manchester United.

Manager Roberto Martinez has insisted that there is no need to agree a new deal until January, but has assured Toffee’s fans that the club will look after their star player.

The 28 year old was instrumental in his sides 3-2 win at West Ham United on Saturday, a result that maintained their, and the leagues only unbeaten record this season.

He scored two superb free kicks to draw Everton level on two occasions, before debutant Romelu Lukaku scored a late winner to give the visitors all three points.

Martinez’s men turn their attention to the Capital One Cup tomorrow evening, and Baines is a 12/1 shot to open the scoring in their tie at Fulham.
