Former AS Roma striker Abel Balbo, who was appointed to coach Serie B side Treviso on Tuesday, has left the club the very same day.
While Balbo was ready for his first training session, none of the players actually showed up. It was assumed that their absence was meant to protest the sacking of manager Luca Gotti earlier this week.
“I was coach of this club for just a few minutes and I feel like I have been made a fool of. The reputation I built up in my entire career is now at risk,” Balbo said.
Captain Riccardo Gissi denied that the players’ absence had to do with any form of protest: “We couldn’t train yesterday because the medical staff wasn’t there. But we were here today.”
Treviso are currently last in the Serie B, and are likely to spend the next season at a lower level.
