The talks between Liverpool and the representatives of Georginio Wijnaldum over a new contract are going well, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Dutch international is the only key player in the current Liverpool squad whose contract is about to enter its final 12 months, and it seems the Champions League holders are intent on extending his stay at Anfield beyond 2021.
Liverpool top the Premier League in a convincing way, standing 25 points above second-place Manchester City ahead of the restart scheduled for June 17th. Wijnaldum’s contribution to this fantastic run has been immense as he played 28 from the possible 29 league games so far, starting in all of them.
The Merseysiders don’t appear to be planning to spend much on incoming transfers this summer, as their decision to withdraw from the race for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner seems to be indicating. Plenty of reports claim they’ll be focusing on keeping all of their important players instead, which likely makes securing the future of the 29-year-old midfielder top of their list.
