(GSM) – Barcelona defender Éric Abidal is close to signing a new contract with the Primera Liga giants in the near future.
The France international will meet with the club’s hierarchy in the coming days to sign a two-year extension, according to various reports in France and Spain.
Abidal wants to prolong his stay at Camp Nou as he looks to maintain the current league leaders’ storming start to the campaign.
“I am very happy and I will sign a new contract with this fantastic club,” Abidal told skysports.com.
“I am in good form at the moment, as are the whole team.
“We play the best football on the European continent and hopefully we can play like that all season.”
Abidal, who is out of contract in June 2012, joined Barça from Olympique Lyon three years ago
