Competition: MLS
Market: New England double chance
Odds: 1/2 @ 888sport
Desperate to make a return to winning ways this weekend, New England will make the trip to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium when they face off against Atlanta on Saturday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Atlanta might have managed to land themselves a flattering 2-2 draw away at Nashville last weekend, it doesn’t cover what has been an extended worrying spell. Failing to find their feet under new Head Coach Gabriel Heinze, the former MLS champions now find themselves in what appears an uphill battle to secure a Final Series spot in the Eastern Conference. Coming under real scrutiny for their dreadful 3-0 drumming at the hands of Chicago earlier in the month, a showing that was billed as a season-worst display, the one-time Manchester United defender has seen his side fail to win any of their last seven straight MLS contests. Also without a win in their last three domestic matchups at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta could face another stern test this weekend.
As for the visitors, although New England might have tried to mount an eye-catching fightback against Toronto last time out, they were eventually hit with a shock 3-2 defeat on home soil. Despite gaining a string of plaudits from across the MLS since opening the 2021 campaign, The Revs have managed to muster just a single point from their last three contests, their worst run so far this season. However, still holding a three-point buffer at the top of the Eastern Conference, Head Coach Bruce Arena should be smelling a real chance to lay down a marker and make a much-needed return to winning ways. Picking up a deserved 2-1 victory when they last faced off against Atlanta at the Gillette Stadium back in May, we’re backing New England to leave with something to show this weekend.
