(GSM) – Blackburn Rovers’ potential owners Venkateshwara Hatcheries are expected to have a transfer budget of just £5million to spend should the takeover be completed.
The Venky’s, a $290million group which is set to become the first Indian company to own a Premier League club, will likely disappoint fans who wanted them to invest heavily in the squad.
Venky’s chairperson Anuradha J. Desai will make just $8million (£5m) available for players as they only aim to make a low mid-table finish.
“We will pump in whatever is needed but the main thing is to get the club back into good shape,” Desai told the Economic Times.
“This is an investment and it will grow on its own strength.
“We won’t need to buy expensive players, we can always lease (loan) them.
“We don’t expect to be in the top five of the Premier League. We will be happy to be in the top 10-12.”
Meanwhile, Venky’s joint managing director Venkatesh Rao expects the deal to be done in the next 10 days.
“It is very much confirmed,” he told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
“In the next 10 days we will be announcing it formally. We are not here to compare with anybody.
“It’s one of the very prestigious, oldest and very well-run clubs. We are looking very positively.
“Don’t forget, this is an Indian first company. It is a prestigious moment for everybody and we should cherish this moment.
“Let us start with a new chapter. There are many plans. Right now there are too many things to be done so let me finish this deal and I will come back to you.”
Blackburn are currently 17th in the Premier League table and play Premier League champions Chelsea at Ewood Park on Saturday.
