American beer company Budweiser has won the naming rights to the oldest cup competition in world football, the FA Cup.
The brewing giant will pay the Football Association 24 million pounds for the competition to be known as ‘the FA Cup with Budweiser’.
Budweiser replaces German company E.ON as the major sponsor of the tournament and FA General Secretary Alex Horne feels the partnership will help the global promotion of the FA Cup.
“We are extremely pleased to have secured an iconic brand such as Budweiser to be the lead partner of the FA Cup,” Horne said.
“Given the global reach of this sponsorship we will see the FA Cup promoted around the world like never before, which is great for the fans and the players.
“It is very important to take the FA Cup to the next level. It is a massively cherished competition.”
In other changes to the FA Cup, the final will now be played at 5.15pm local time, instead of the usual 3pm kick-off.
Minimum ticket prices have been cut from 15 pounds to 10 pounds and fans attending the match will now vote for the man of the match, as opposed to commentators.
