New York City were in desperate need to find replacements for David Villa, after the Spaniard left the club and moved to Japan. There was never going to be an easy way to replace him, but after Alexandru Mitrita joined from Universitatea Craiova from Romania, now another signing has arrived, this time from Croatia.
Brazilian winger/forward Heber has joined the club from HNK Rijeka. The 27-year old had a great 18-month spell in Croatia, averaging 0.67 goals per 90 minutes on pitch, making him Rijeka’s best player. The fee New York City FC paid to Rijeka remains unknown, although there were mentions of around four million dollars. Whatever the case, the Brazilian was officially announced by the club on Thursday and he will be ready to play for his new club after NYCFC return to action in 10 days’ time.
Heber was not signed as a Designated Player, but rather via Targeted Allocation Money and will count against the salary cap.
