Newcastle United fans could’ve been forgiven for thinking their team was already on the beach but instead of giving into that, their side burst into action against Arsenal earlier this week with a really strong performance.
They controlled large portions of the game and, ultimately, came out on top with a comprehensive 2-0 win.
Terrible Gunners
Arsenal offered absolutely nothing in this fixture aside from apathy, weakness on the ball and real question marks as to what their future is going to look like. The standard excuse of this being a small squad isn’t really going to fly for much longer and in the summer transfer window, they need to give serious consideration to a few big changes – because the mentality is way, way off.
A bright Magpies future
Newcastle could quite easily end the campaign in the top half of the table but even if they aren’t able to do so, there’s still a lot of cause for excitement. Eddie Howe has done a really, really strong job since taking over on Tyneside and the owners have to be pleased with how things are going thus far. Now, it’s just a case of seeing whether or not they can maintain it.
Advantage Spurs
Tottenham Hotspur were able to defeat Arsenal and now, against all odds, Antonio Conte knows that a point will surely be enough for them to edge back into the Champions League next season. They face Norwich City on the final day, Arsenal play Everton, and the grandstand finish we hoped to see has been somewhat spoiled by Arsenal’s incredible lack of will power and steel.
