French media outlet L’Equipe understands that Newcastle are stepping up their efforts to sign Bordeaux midfielder Henri Saivet.
Having suffered the fourth successive defeat without scoring, the Magpies are in desperate need of winter reinforcements, with signing a centre forward the first thing on their minds.
However, it would appear as though they are also in the market for central midfielders, as they have been linked with a move for Bordeaux hotshot Henri Saivet.
According to L’Equipe, the Magpies have submitted a £4.5 million offer for the talented footballer, who is widely tipped to continue his career in English Premier League.
Despite operating as a winger and forward during his early days, Saivet has developed into a high-quality central midfielder, and went on to start 18 league fixtures this season, scoring two goals.
His suitors Newcastle currently sit two points adrift of safety and they are 4/7 to get relegated to the Championship.
