Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear was admitted to hospital on Saturday after complaining of feeling unwell.
The 62-year-old, who has a history of ill health, was examined by medical staff “as a precautionary measure” and was being kept in for observation, the club reported.
He was examined by the club’s medical staff before going to hospital,” a Newcastle spokesman added.
Newcastle assistant manager Chris Hughton will take charge for the game against West Brom at The Hawthorns later Saturday.
Kinnear suffered a mild heart attack when in charge of Wimbledon in 1999, later resigning from that post due to poor health.
The Irishman replaced Kevin Keegan as Newcastle manager in September, initially on a month by month basis before being handed a contract until the end of the season.
