Newcastle are pondering a summer swoop for Reims midfielder Romain Amalfitano, L’Equipe understands.
The Magpies have had a very good experience with players coming from France of late, namely with Yohan Cabaye, Gabriel Obertan and Hatem Ben Arfa, and they are now set to continue the trend.
According to L’Equipe, Newcastle have set their sights on Reims midfielder Romain Amalfitano, who is regarded as one of the most talented players in French second division.
The 22-year-old, who is younger brother of Marseille midfielder Morgan Amalfitano, can leave the club on free when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Newcastle have already watched the player several times this season and they are expected to reach an agreement with the player’s representatives in the near future.
Amalfitano started his professional career at Evian, but moved to Reims in the summer of 2010 and has since made 52 league appearances for the Ligue 2 side, scoring 6 goals in the process.
