Premier League giants Newcastle United are in advanced talks with Benfica for Greek midfielder Andreas Samaris, according to O Jogo.
The Magpies have been hot on the trail of the 28-year-old footballer for quite some time and they finally decided to make their interest concrete.
O Jogo claims that Newcastle have submitted a €15 million proposal for Samaris, although Benfica are holding out for €20 million.
The high asking price is quite surprising considering that the Greece international only started nine league fixtures last season, but it appears the interest in his services is still quite high.
Newcastle United plan to seriously reinforce their ranks after securing a return to English Premier League and they can now be backed at 11/4 to achieve a top table finish.
