Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has moved to confirm speculations linking the Magpies with a summer move for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.
The St James’ Park outfit look set to stay without star forward Loic Remy and they are on the lookout for a perfect replacement.
Alan Pardew has now revealed that Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku is the number one name on his hit-list, with Newcastle desperate to challenge Everton and other interested sides for his signature.
“I think he is a player a lot of clubs will be looking at in the summer. I don’t think Everton will get a free run at him,” Pardew was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
“At the moment, it is a bit like we are with Loic (Remy). It is a situation that Everton would love to keep him, as we would with Loic, and those questions are really out of Everton’s and our control.”
Recent reports have suggested Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will listen to offers for the Belgian in the summer, although he is not too keen on letting Lukaku join a Premier League rival.
Alan Pardew will have a perfect opportunity to take another look at his target as Newcastle host Everton later today, with the Magpies priced at 5/2 to record a fourth triumph in last five Premier League matches.
