The prospect of new ownership brings with it renewed hope for Newcastle United fans, and manager Rafa Benitez is certainly fuelling that hope with some of the names on his January shopping list. The Spaniard is determined to keep his side in the Premier League, and adding an immensely talented goalkeeper seems to be his first step.
Iker Casillas is the man Newcastle want, according to the Guardian, to help stem the steady flow of goals that they have been conceding. The Magpies have picked the ball out the back of the net 22 this season, and adding a former Real Madrid legend between the sticks should help them tighten up.
The 36-year old shot stopper has been plying his trade in the Portuguese Primeira Liga with FC Porto, and has kept an impressive six clean sheets in eight appearances during this campaign.
This would certainly not be a long term solution in net for Newcastle, but if Casillas can help keep them up this season then they will be in a good position to consolidate under new ownership for next year.
