Sky Sports understands that Newcastle United are ready to cool their interest in Andros Townsend after being put off by Tottenham Hotspur’s £14m price tag.
The north-east side have long been linked with a move for the England international, who has barely featured for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season but may move on after seeing a loan approach and a bid of £10.5m rejected.
Townsend has played just sixty-four minutes of league football so far this season, with his only club starts coming in cup competitions.
In total, he has turned out for Spurs close to one hundred times, scoring ten goals while before breaking into their first team, he had no less than nine loan spells with clubs in the top three tiers of English football.
He has been capped ten times for his country since making his debut in 2013, scoring three goals.
