Newcastle eyeing Schwarzer loan move

Newcastle United are eyeing a shock emergency loan move for Chelsea’s Mark Schwarzer following injuries to their two first choice goalkeepers, according to the Daily Star.

Rob Elliot was taken off just before half time in Saturday’s 2-1 win over the Premier League leaders, while Netherlands international Tim Krul has missed the last three games.

With neither set to return until mid-January, Magpies boss Alan Pardew is keen to bring in cover and has identified Schwarzer as the ideal man to fill the void.

The former Middlesbrough and Fulham man has not played since the win at Cardiff City on the final day of last season and now has both Thibaut Courtois and Petr Cech ahead of him in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

Newcastle’s win at the weekend saw them rise to seventh place, level on points with Arsenal and they can now be backed at 10/1 to finish in the top six.
