West Ham have submitted a £20 million bid for Jonjo Shelvey of Newcastle United, Newcastle Chronicle have relayed what their sources in London have told them.
The Hammers expressed an interest in signing the former Liverpool and Swansea midfielder back in January, but the Magpies weren’t interested in doing a mid-season deal. Now, however, their stance may have changed with the club looking to bring in new players ahead of next season.
Manager Rafa Benitez, whose future with the club is also in doubt, has made several demands to the club in the last 12 months that still remain unresolved. Now the Spaniard demands that, should Shelvey be sold, the money is reinvested in the squad and Shelvey be properly replaced.
The 27-year-old hasn’t been playing much lately, with even the injury of Sean Longstaff not enough to get him a place in the starting XI, and West Ham are ready to offer him a way out of St. James Park.
