If you thought that the Robinho, Berbatov, Ronaldo and Gareth Barry sagas were all a little bit surreal and worthy of being the script for a television soap opera, well the goings on at Newcastle United have out done them all.
Reports quite clearly showed that Keegan had left the club. Some reports said he had been sacked and others said he had left. The we get a statement from Newcastle saying that he hasn’t been sacked and that he is an important part of the club’s future.
No word from Keegan until we get a statement from the League Managers Association saying that Keegan had not resigned his position and that the LMA will keep the media informed as to what is going on.
It is all a bit bizarre. The one thing that is beyond all the confusion is that the loyal and passionate Toon Army deserve a whole lot better than yet another mess created by those behind the scenes. The fans have been there through thick and thin and the joy of Keegan’s re-appointment was a rare moment of celebration for them over the past few years.
It is difficult to see how Keegan can stay at the club after the events of yesterday and that is a real shame. He is good for the game and good for Newcastle. I’m not sure I feel the same way about Mike Ashley.
