Newcastle have done well this season but Pardew for England I don’t think so

I have read stories this morning that Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has ruled himself out of taking the England job when current boss Fabio Capello leaves his position next summer.

To be honest I don’t think anybody had even ever considered him, I certainly hadn’t.

Favourite

The Newcastle chief stated that he Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is his preferred choice and I think he is a lot of people’s first choice. The Tottenham boss is the most likely appointment next summer. Redknapp has more experience at the top level than the Toon boss.

Decent

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has shown himself to be a decent boss though. I am not decrying his abilities as he is starting to look like a very capable boss. The job he has done with Newcastle this season has been nothing short of outstanding.

However we are only ten games into the Premier League season. He probably needs to be judged at the end of the season. If Newcastle are still in the top six of the Premier League then he should be heralded as a managerial success story.

Unbeaten

Pardew has managed his side to a ten match unbeaten run at the start of the season, a feat that only league leaders Manchester City have achieved in the top flight. The former-Southampton boss had to cope with the lost of two of his star players in the summer in the shape of Kevin Nolan and Joey Barton.

Not to mention the exit of striker Andy Carroll in the January transfer window. So to have the Magpies playing how they are is already an achievement.

Unity

What Pardew has instilled in the Newcastle camp is unity. You can almost feel the team spirit emanating from the players when they are on the pitch. Last season you very much felt like the dressing room was not right and maybe the exit of the likes of Barton and Nolan has almost solidify the players and they have banded together to form a stronger unit.

Small

Newcastle are currently third in the Premier League table and playing really well. Their problem will be when they pick up any injuries. They don’t have the largest of squads and injuries or suspensions (Tiote) to key players will hit them hard.

They don’t have the strength in depth of Tottenham, Chelsea or Liverpool who are currently the teams around them. They have also not spent the same amount of money as the above mentioned teams.

Europe

I think it will be a superb achievement if Newcastle manage to get a European place. In fact I would love them to ruffle the feathers of the teams in the top four of the Premier League but unfortunately I just don’t think they have enough players to do it.

At some point in the season the Toon will have players injured and it’s a long season. There isn’t much room for squad rotation in Alan Pardew’s current squad. I hope he is given money to strengthen in the January transfer window though.

Owner

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has come in for some awful stick over the last couple of years and rightly so. However Ashley’s popularity seems to have improved thanks to the good start to the season. I would just like to suggest that it’s because of Alan Pardew that the team is where they are now not Ashley.

The manager has done well in the transfer market signing the likes of Demba Ba, Yohan Cabaye and Gabriel Obertan for relatively small fees. I also think that the club has taken in far more than they have spent in the last year or so.

Ashley will have a chance to prove himself to Toon supporters when the transfer window opens in January when the squad needs reinforcing. Then we will see if he has the best interests of the club at heart. This is his chance to put his money where his mouth is.

Improvement

This season both the Newcastle team and manager have shown improvement. Alan Pardew has made a promising start to his managerial career on Tyneside and maybe one day he will be considered as a possible England boss.

However I don’t believe that day has yet arrived. I don’t think he is ready and why would he leave Newcastle when he has only just started to build the foundations of a decent team.
