Newcastle in fresh assault on Victor Valdes

Newcastle Chronicle has claimed that Newcastle United are stepping up their efforts to sign Spanish goalkeeper Victor Valdes from Manchester United.

The Magpies are facing a serious goalkeeping crisis with both Tom Krul and Karl Darlow injured and Rob Elliot doubtful.

As a result, Freddie Woodman is club’s only fit shot-stopper, meaning Newcastle could ask the Premier League to allow them to sign another keeper on an emergency loan.

Provided the permission is granted, the Magpies would almost certainly attempt to recruit Victor Valdes from Manchester United, who is counting his final days at Old Trafford.

The Spanish goalkeeper is desperate to leave the Red Devils at the earliest opportunity and with the wealth of experience at the highest level, he would probably be able to slot straight into the starting line-up at St James’ Park.

Newcastle are in a difficult situation after the derby defeat to Sunderland was followed by a goalless draw against Stoke, with the Magpies still sitting in the Premier League bottom three.
