According to The Times, Newcastle are interested in signing Jarell Quansah from Liverpool this summer. They believe an offer of £30million, with add-ons to come on top of that amount, would suffice to convince the Premier League leaders to sell, and that a promise of regular first-team football would be enough for the defender to accept the move to St. James’ Park.
The 22-year-old centre-back, who has been occasionally deployed as an auxiliary right-back, has so far recorded just two Premier League starts this season, finding it hard to compete with the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate for a spot in the heart of defence. On the other hand, with the future of Van Dijk up in the air at the moment, there are signs he might become a more prominent member of the squad under Arne Slot from 2025/26.
Liverpool have Quansah under contract until 2029 and have the option to extend the deal by a further year, obviously holding all the cards firmly in their hands. Under such circumstances, it remains to be seen if Newcastle’s valuation of his services proves accurate in their eyes.
