Newcastle keen on Brazilian starlet

Italian newspaper Il Corriere dello Sport understands that Newcastle are showing interest in Atletico Mineiro defender Marcos Rocha.

The Magpies have been keeping close tabs on the talented full-back and they even attempted to sign him in January before purchasing Mathieu Debuchy from Lille.

However, with Danny Simpson widely tipped to leave the club when his contract expires in June, Newcastle could return for the Brazilian hotshot.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, the St James Park outfit are likely to face a stiff competition from the likes of Inter and Roma.

The 24-year-old came through the youth ranks at Atletico Mineiro and has spent his entire career at the club, apart from enjoying several loan spells.

Rocha went on to make 140 league appearances for the Brazilian giants and is now on the verge of breaking into the national team set-up.

He received his first Brazil call-up in November 2012, but watched the 4-3 friendly win over Argentina from the bench.
