Premier League strugglers Newcastle looked to have dealt with their goalkeeping issue, at least temporarily, by signing Martin Dubravka on loan from Sparta Prague. The Slovakian made his debut against Manchester United, a game which the Magpies managed to win 1-0, and looked to be a good shot stopper.
In the summer however Rafa Benitez is reportedly planning to bring in a permanent option, presumably when the ownership debacle is all sorted out. Burnley’s surprise star this season Nick Pope is the man Benitez wants, according to the Sun, and they may well be able to get him for a decent price.
Pope has stepped up brilliantly to fill the gloves of Tom Heaton during this campaign, but now the England international is returning from his long-term injury, Pope may well slip back down the pecking order. He remains however and excellent goal keeper, and would be a great addition to Newcastle’s squad.
