According to a recent report from Calciomercato, Newcastle United are leading the race to sign Marco Asensio from Real Madrid.
Right now, the Magpies are in a position that would’ve seemed unthinkable just a few years ago. They’re mixing it up towards the top of the Premier League table, they continue to get results, they’ve got a strong squad and arguably an even stronger manager.
They want to continue building their arsenal, pun not intended, which makes sense, given the financial resources they have at their disposal.
Marco Asensio is a fresh target for Eddie Howe’s side with the belief being that can add even further stability to the starting XI.
Alas, while AC Milan are also very interested in bringing him over from Real Madrid, Newcastle are actually the leading suitor – likely because they can pay him a whole lot of money.
If they do make the move, they will reportedly do so during the upcoming January transfer window.
