Newcastle United are weighing up a move for Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, Daily Express has revealed.
The Magpies are slowly coming to terms with losing star keeper Tim Krul, who continues to be linked with a move away from the club.
And even though Newcastle are demanding £20 million for their prized asset, the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Juventus remain keen on his services.
As a result, the Magpies have started the search for potential replacements and they seem to have made Reading’s Alex McCarthy their primary target.
Newcastle scouts have been impressed by the 23-year-old’s performances this season and they have instructed club officials to try and sign the shot-stopper at the earliest opportunity.
Alex McCarthy first caught the eye of top English clubs last season when he made 13 Premier League appearances for the Royals and he has continued his impressive form this term in the Championship.
