Newcastle United are eyeing a move for Manchester United starlet Jesse Lingard, according to the Metro.
Steve McClaren, who is preparing for his first match in charge of the North East club, took the twenty-two year old on loan at Derby County last season, where the midfielder scored twice in fifteen appearances.
Lingard has also enjoyed temporary spells with Brighton and Hove Albion, Birmingham City and Leicester City, but has made just one senior appearance for his parent club.
He was part of United’s successful FA Youth Cup winning squad in 2010/11, and has been capped eleven times for England’s U21s, scoring twice.
Newcastle have been busy in the transfer market this summer, signing defender Chancel Mbemba and forward Aleksandar Mitrovic from Anderlecht and midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum from PSV Eindhoven.
Southampton go to St James Park on Sunday, and the home win can be backed at a price of 15/8.
