Newcastle lose Smith for three months

Managerless Newcastle's problems deepened on Friday when it was confirmed former England forward Alan Smith will be sidelined for three months with a stress fracture in his foot.

Smith joins an injury list that also includes Jonas Gutierrez, Habib Beye, Mark Viduka and Jose Enrique and caretaker boss Chris Hughton is also without suspended Joey Barton and Danny Guthrie for Saturday's trip to West Ham.

Ireland winger Damien Duff is fit again after a knee injury however and Nigeria striker Obafemi Martins looks set to make the squad after resuming training on Thursday.
