Sometimes I forget that Leicester City won the Premier League, so I go and watch highlights of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez to remind myself of the magic of the 2015/16 season. Islam Slimani however is not a man who features in those highlights, mainly because he joined the club in the summer of 2016, and he has never quite managed to secure a regular starting role.
It is perhaps unsurprising then that, according to the Leicester Mercury, the Algerian international could be set to depart the Midlands club in this January transfer window. Newcastle could be his potential destination, but only on a loan spell as the Magpies are going through a change in ownership.
Slimani has made 12 Premier League appearances so far this season, scoring just once, and he could only manage 23 games in his first season with the club. Newcastle need a goal scorer, which the forward certainly was during his time at Sporting, so this could be a favourable move for all parties.
