Newcastle are pushing to sign Jesse Lingard from Manchester United for the remainder of the season, according to Sky Sports. However, the two clubs have so far been unable to reach an agreement, due to United preferring a deal on a permanent basis.
The 29-year-old forward obviously has no place in the starting XI at Old Trafford, which means his situation hasn’t changed with Ralf Rangnick replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the dugout.
The Magpies and Lingard himself would prefer a loan move, with the club wary of making too much of a commitment in light of a possible relegation, and the player aware that his options in terms of a permanent destination would likely be richer in the summer, when his contract with United expires.
That is, on the other hand, exactly the problem the 20-time English champions have with letting Lingard leave on loan at this point is his contract expiring at the end of the season, and if they are to lose his services without compensation at that point, they want to make use of him while they can. It seems quite reasonable from their perspective, and it appears the only way to prize Lingard away this month is to pay some kind of a fee for a permanent transfer.
