Newcastle United are stepping up their interest in LOSC Lille’s Sven Botman and are pushing to complete the deal as soon as may be, according to Fabrizio Romano. The talks are believed to be in an advanced stage, and though AC Milan aren’t completely out of the race yet, the Magpies are far ahead and aren’t allowing themselves to be brushed aside.
Standing 6’4” tall, Botman is a powerful defender whose talents have been reportedly spotted and watched by a number of top clubs across Europe. Newcastle jumped the queue and initially opened the talks with the 22-year-old centre-back in January and the player is thought to be open to the idea of playing in the Premier League next.
Botman joined Lille from Ajax’s Under-21 setup in 2020 for a reported fee of €8 million, and since then, he’s made a total of 79 appearances for the Ligue 1 side in all competitions, scoring three goals.
