While Newcastle United Football Club has been put up for sale by owner Mike Ashley it’s business as usual for manager Rafa Benitez and the Spaniard is already turning his attention to the January transfer window. According to the Guardian the Magpies are set to reignite their interest in Sampdoria’s Dennis Praet, having been linked with the midfielder in the summer.
Praet, a three-time winner of the Belgian Pro League with Anderlecht, moved to Serie A side Sampdoria at the beginning of last season and played an important role in what was a relatively impressive season, despite not quite living up to expectations. The Italian club have reportedly said that they won’t consider selling the Belgian midfielder until the end of this season, but if Newcastle trigger the €20m release clause there is little Samp can do.
The Magpies, who were promoted to the Premier League for this season, have had an impressive start to their campaign. They currently sit seventh in the table, one point ahead of struggling Liverpool, and there is a real sense of optimism with Benitez at the helm and new ownership on the horizon.
