Newcastle to make shock move for Gabriel Obertan

Newcastle are pondering bid for Manchester United winger Gabriel Obertan, according to a report in Evening Chronicle.

The former Bordeaux midfielder had arrived to Old Trafford in a controversial move from Bordeaux and has since failed to prove the doubters wrong.

With Ashley Young’s arrival increasing competition for places on the wing, the Frenchman could leave the club in search for first team football.

According to the latest reports, Newcastle are prepared to offer the Frenchman an escape route from Old Trafford as they ponder a bid for the 22-year-old.

Obertan would probably feel at home at St James Park seeing that French speakers Sylvain Marveaux, Demba Ba, Mehdi Abeid and Yohan Cabaye have all joined Newcastle this summer.

Obertan was paid just £3 million two years ago and his price is unlikely to have increased considering the standard of his performances.
