Newcastle United will attempt to sign Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin in January, according to the Telegraph.
The North East club were linked with a move for the former Burnley man last month, but refused to meet the Hoops’ £15m valuation.
However, having taken just two points from his opening four games in charge, manager Steve McClaren is set to strengthen his attacking options at the next opportunity.
Austin has picked up from where he left of last season in terms of goals scored, with the twenty-six year old netting five times in six league games so far, a tally which sees him lead the second tier scoring charts.
Last season, he bagged eighteen Premier League goals – the fourth best return in the division behind Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea’s Diego Costa.
Austin is currently priced at 11/2 to finish as the Championship’s top scorer.
