Newcastle United have won the race to the signing of Bournemouth central defender Lloyd Kelly, according to a report in TEAMtalk. Kelly is out of contract at Bournemouth at the end of the season, and it has been claimed that Premier League rivals Newcastle have convinced the defender to switch to St. James’ Park on a free transfer in the summer of 2024.
TEAMtalk has noted that Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool have also been interested in Kelly. However, it is Newcastle who have managed to get a deal done with the 25-year-old, who can operate as a centre-back or as a left-back. Kelly has been on the books of Bournemouth since 2019 and is one of the better players in his position in the Premier League.
Kelly has made 52 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. He has given three assists and kept 10 clean sheets in those games. Newcastle are sixth in the Premier League table with 56 points from 35 matches.
