Newcastle United are interested in signing Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso in the summer transfer window, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. The report in the Italian news outlet has claimed that Premier League club Newcastle are competing with Serie A outfit Inter Milan to secure the services of Hermoso on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Napoli and clubs in the Saudi Pro League are also keen on Hermoso. Inter find the left-back’s demands of €5 million per year salary too much and are starting to look at alternatives, including RB Salzburg’s Oumar Solet. The Italian giants are aware that Villa can afford to meet Hermoso’s demands and are in a better position to sign the 28-year-old left-back.
Hermoso has given one assist in 23 La Liga matches for Atletico so far this season. The 28-year-old left-back has scored one goal in eight UEFA Champions League matches for the Spanish club this campaign.
