Newcastle United are interested in signing James Maddison from Premier League rivals Leicester City in 2023, according to 90min. The report has claimed that Newcastle wanted to sign the England international attacking midfielder in the summer transfer window and remain keen on securing his services.
Eddie Howe’s side reportedly made bids for Maddison over the summer and were close to matching Leicester’s £50 million for him. However, the former Premier League champions did not want to sell the Englishman and want him to sign a new deal. However, there is no sign of an agreement from Maddison, whose current contract at Leicester runs until 2024.
Maddison has scored three goals and provided one assist in six Premier League appearances for Leicester so far this season. The 25-year-old made 28 starts and seven substitute appearances in the league for the Foxes last season, scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists in the process.
