Newcastle United are favourites to sign Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City in the January transfer window, according to TEAMtalk. The report has claimed that Juventus are keen on the 28-year-old as well, but there are two major factors that make a transfer to Newcastle more likely.
First of all, Phillips himself would prefer to stay in the Premier League. While the former Leeds United midfielder has not yet ruled out a move to Juventus, he would give priority to stay in England. Secondly, Juventus are unable to pay a lot of money for Phillips. If City ask for £40 million or more, then the Italian club would pull out a potential deal for him.
Phillips has been on the books of City since the summer of 2022 when he joined from Leeds. The England international has struggled to make an impact at the Etihad Stadium and is a peripheral figure in manager Pep Guardiola’s side at the moment.
