Newcastle United are interested in signing Victor Boniface from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer window, according to Football Insider. The report has claimed that Newcastle, who are aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season, have been told to pay at least £40 million in transfer fees for the 24-year-old Nigeria international striker.
With the future of Alexander Isak far from certain amid interest from Liverpool and Arsenal, Newcastle have identified Boniface as a potential replacement for the Sweden international striker. The 24-year-old has scored seven goals and made one assist in 10 Bundesliga starts and scored 14 goals and made eight assists in 18 Bundesliga starts for Bayer this season.
Newcastle are sixth in the Premier League table at the moment with 47 points from 28 matches, just two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, while Bayer currently find themselves second in the Bundesliga table with 56 points from 26 matches, six points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
