Newcastle United are interested in signing Mohamed Elneny from Premier League rivals Arsenal in the January transfer window, according to The Telegraph. It has been reported that Newcastle have scouted Elneny ‘extensively’, and that Arsenal could make the Egypt international defensive midfielder available this month.
Elneny is out of contract at Arsenal at the end of the season. No talks over a new deal are taking place, and it is very likely that the Gunners will simply release the 29-year-old in the summer of 2022. Elneny has made one start and six substitute appearances in the Premier League for Arsenal so far this season.
Newcastle are in the Premier League bottom three at the moment and are in real danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season. Elneny is a very good and experienced midfielder who would make Eddie Howe’s side better and stronger in the middle of the season.
