Newcastle United are interested in signing Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United in the summer transfer window, according to 90min. It has been reported that Newcastle are among the clubs who are monitoring the situation of Phillips, who has yet to open talks with Leeds over a new deal.
Leeds are a massive club, and so are Newcastle. Like the Whites, the Magpies are also in danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season. However, Newcastle have the richest owners in club football. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) could easily afford to pay Leeds a hefty transfer fee and satisfy the midfielder’s wage demands.
Phillips is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and is also a regular in the England squad. The 26-year-old is injured at the moment and is expected to return to action in March. Phillips has provided one assist in 12 Premier League games and has scored one goal in three Carabao Cup ties for Marcelo Bielsa’s side so far this season.
