Newcastle United plan to hand Dwight Gayle a new contract, according to Football Insider. Gayle is injured at the moment and is recovering from a knee injury, and manager Steve Bruce does not want to lose the 31-year-old striker when the window opens in January.
The report has claimed that Premier League club club Newcastle will meet Gayle and his agents for talks over a new deal, with the striker out of contract at the Magpies in the summer of 2021.
Gayle has been on the books of Newcastle since 2016, but the striker has failed to make a huge impact at the club in the Premier League. According to WhoScored, the 31-year-old striker made 10 starts and 10 substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Magpies last season, scoring four goals and providing two assists in the process. Back in 2016-17, Gayle scored 23 goals in the Championship to play a key role in Newcastle winning promotion back to the top flight of English football, according to WhoScored.
