Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claims Atletico Madrid defender Javier Manquillo is on the verge of signing a deal with the Premier League returnees Newcastle United.
Manquillo spent last season on loan at Sunderland, but the club’s relegation to the Championship ruled out the Black Cats’ chances of signing the 23-year-old on a permanent contract.
Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simone does not have Javier Manquillo included in his plan for the next season and will allow the Spanish international right-back to return to the Premier League for the third time.
Manquillo, who spent a season-long spell at Liverpool as well, is reported to have already agreed on a deal with Newcastle United.
Magpies are said to have offered the 23-year-old defender a three-year deal, whereas Mundo Deportivo claims that the player could arrive in England for his medicals today.
Financial terms of a move have not been disclosed but given the fact Manquillo’s contract with Atletico Madrid was running out in 2018, the Spanish right-back will have most likely been allowed to leave on a free transfer or for a nominal fee.
