Niang reveals Everton bid; Rodgers hopeful Sterling will sign new deal

AC Milan forward M’Baye Niang has revealed that the Italian giants rejected a bid for him from English Premier League club Everton, while insisting that he is happy at the San Siro, Sky Sports understands.

In addition, Turkish Super League outfit Trabzonspor had a bid rejected for Milan’s teenage sensation.

Niang, 17, joined Milan in the summer from French side Caen, following the club’s relegation to Ligue 2, for an undisclosed transfer fee on a three-year contract.

The France Under-21 international, a native of Meulan-en-Yvelines in north-central France, bagged his first goal for Milan in their recent Coppa Italia clash versus Reggina, becoming the second-youngest goalscorer ever for the Rossoneri.

“I was pleased that the club don’t consider me on the market, and they have rejected offers from Everton and Trabzonspor,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“AC Milan have immediately showed great trust in me.”

Niang has featured in just three competitive matches for Milan this season, including two substitute appearances in Serie A against the likes of Napoli and Pescara.

The Frenchman is started to crawl his way into first-team consideration having appeared in Milan’s last two games after impressing against Reggina in midweek.

It is very likely that Niang could work himself into Massimiliano Allegri’s first-team picture, backing up the likes of Stephan El Shaarawy and Giampaolo Pazzini.

Outside of El Shaarawy and Pazzini, Milan strikers — including Bojan Krkic, Pato and Robinho — have each had their struggles this season.

Rodgers hopeful Sterling will sign new deal

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers remains confident that teenage winger Raheem Sterling will sign a new contract at Anfield, Sky Sports reports.

Somewhat surprisingly, Sterling has featured in 25 games for the Reds this season, more than any other player in Brendan Rodgers’ squad.

He’s been exceptional since taking over Stewart Downing’s position on the right-wing for Liverpool, and has earned subsequently earned high praise from his manager.

“He is a kid who has got special ability, so that no matter what is going on, he doesn’t get too involved in it,” Rodgers told the club’s official website.

“He is focused on his football. Hopefully it stays that way.”

Sterling, 18, is reportedly attracting interest from Arsenal and Manchester United, according to the Daily Mail, amid contract talks with Liverpool.

However, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has made it quite clear that he will not be signing any new players in January, while the Gunners have reportedly shown heavy interest in Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.

At the end of the day, Sterling will most likely ink an extension at Anfield, but the speculation will continue until he agrees to terms on a new deal.
