Ligue 1 high-flyers Nice have moved to reveal that they have failed to agree a deal for Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier.
Les Aiglons are looking to reinforce the midfield department ahead of what should be a very interesting season finale, and they were hoping to bring les Gones star to Allianz Arena.
However, even though Lyon are eager to offload the 26-year-old footballer, it appears that chairman Jean-Michel Aulas doesn’t want to reinforce their top 3 rivals.
L’Equipe claims that Grenier was prepared to accept a serious wage cut to join Nice, but he was ultimately denied the opportunity to kick-start his career at Cote d’Azur.
“We will not follow up,” Nice general manager Julien Fournier told L’Equipe. “The conditions wanted by Lyon are not compatible with what we can do.”
Clement Grenier has had a tough time trying to resurrect his career after a succession of difficult injuries, and he only made four substitute appearances in the current Ligue 1 campaign.
There is still time before the January window is over for the former Arsenal target to find a new club, but it is now clear that he won’t be going to Nice.
