OGC Nice are set to sign Salvatore Sirigu as a free agent on a short-term contract in the coming days, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Italian goalkeeper has been training with the Ligue 1 club for a week, and it seems they’ve already seen enough to decide to take him on board for the remainder of the season.
Sirigu rose through the youth ranks at Venezia, and has played for no less than 10 clubs at senior level in his long career so far: Palermo, Cremonese, Ancona, Paris Saint-Germain, Sevilla, Osasuna, Torino, Genoa, Napoli and Fiorentina. He also has 28 caps as an Italy international to his name.
Fiorentina signed Sirigu on a free transfer from Napoli in January this year, also on a short-term contract which expired at the end of June, and the 36-year-old shot-stopper has been without a club since.
Nice have only two relatively young goalkeepers in their squads, 23-year-old Marcin Bulka and 22-year-old Teddy Boulhendi, and the presence of someone as experienced as Sirigu will certainly benefit them both.
