Monaco are believed to be readying a move on Benfica forward Nicolas Gaitan, Sky Sport Italia has learned.
The Principality club are looking at several high-profile players as they aim to sign a replacement for James Rodriguez, with the Argentine one of the first names on their hit-list.
New Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim is well aware of the forward’s qualities as the pair often crossed path in Portuguese Primeira Liga, but it remains to be seen if the French giants will be ready to match a €30 million asking price.
Nicolas Gaitan is almost certain to leave Estadio da Luz this summer, with few more top sides showing interest in his services.
The 26-year-old has spent last four years with the Eagles having joined from Boca Juniors, scoring 17 goals in 100 league outings.
He has so far earned six Argentina caps but last appeared for the national team in June 2011.
